Julie Weir is the Head of A&R Music For Nations, Sony Music and has been in the industry for over 25 years from humble beginnings in a record store in Leeds, through to running club nights in the city. After moving to London to do an MA, she began to work in the industry as a merchandising manager for independent label Cacophonous, moving up to label manager. 

She set up Visible Noise in 1998 and signed acts such as Bullet for my Valentine and Bring me the Horizon.In April 2016 she decided to take the leap and move to Sony Music to be the Label Head and resurrect the legendary Music For Nations, where she is currently working with Artists such as Tool, Amon Amarth, Bury Tomorrow, Killswitch Engage amongst others.

What would you love to share to encourage other women to start their own business?

The freedom it gives is outstanding, 

The creativity is generates is exceptional,

The determination it builds is life changing,

The sense of achievement is huge.

It’s something everyone should experience – but not something everyone can shoulder.

Be confident in your aesthetic, financials and goals and it will be one of the best things you have ever done!! 

What are your top 5 tips for entrepreneurial success?

Go with your gut and trust your judgement – BUT ALWAYS ask questions

Don’t be scared – of anything (nothing is as intimidating as it seems – a lot of it is self inferred)

Surround yourself with a great business and personal network. 

Be social.

Be AUTHENTIC.
