Inspirational Female Founder Spotlight: Leisa Roberts, Brow HQ

Leisa Roberts founded BROW HQ in 2022 after more than 30 years industry experience as a Microblading/SPMU/Skin Expert, Tutor and Assessor. Beginning her career as the highly acclaimed Lillian Maund School of Beauty, Leisa has moved on to creating a multi-award-winning clinic and training centre which continually pushes boundaries in what’s expected of a beauty destination: Focus is on building clients’ confidence by creating perfect, natural looking brows, glowing skin, and wellbeing with the highest levels of service and expertise in the most stunning setting.

Can you tell us a little about your background and the company?
I always loved the field of beauty growing up, so it was a natural career for me, beginning at Clarins in Manchester and London and then branching out on my own with Fabulous You in Cheshire and now BROW HQ. I am a certified and qualified semi-permanent make-up artist and microblading trainer, recently awarded the title of Microblading Artist of the Year (which I am incredibly proud of) but there is always something to learn, and the beauty industry is always moving forwards. I love it. As I have progressed though it has become more about helping women feel their best, whether that is helping them overcome issues, helping them invest in themselves or equipping them with the skills to pursue the career that they aspire to.

How did the idea come to you for the company?
With BROWHQ I wanted to create a place where people could come and where their needs were listened to and understood and where not only did people leave with the look they wanted but also the confidence in themselves, ‘walking that bit taller’. In the concept of BROW HQ it was important that we combine the highest professionalism from elite experts with an amazing environment where people can be spoiled and relax. It is the whole experience.

An example of being a listening brand: we are looking forwards and responsive to what our clients are telling us, so we have recently set up a innovative new Brow Spa which is proving very popular.

How did you achieve awareness?
Most of our awareness has come about from word of mouth; we concentrated on doing what we do well and living the mission of BROW HQ to bring world class knowledge, passion and commitment to making our customers feel a million dollars. I believe that the key to success is in living your purpose and being authentic. People don’t need silly gimmicks.

Now, we have a limited marketing budget and do share our work in the press and on social media, but again it is authentically us. Plus, we have recently entered industry and local awards and we have won quite a number, which has been super rewarding for the whole team and we display them with proud in the salon.

How have you been able to gain funding and grow?
Through hard work, determination and employing brilliant people

What are the key successes?
Winning National Salon of the Year 2023 in the Beauty Awards last year was amazing

What were/are the challenges and how have you overcome these?
Covid was a tough time in the beauty industry and as we came out of Covid we took on the new property as well as hitting the energy crisis.

During Covid we didn’t want to be left behind so created an at home lamination kit so we could give clients something to use at home in lockdown to keep their brows looking lovely. As we came out of Covid we had to manage our finances more carefully, reduce costs with our own energies and run with a skeleton staff and all really pull togethe

What are your plans now/for the future?
2023 was a incredible year for us as we saw that the vision for BROWHQ was what people are looking for, so we will continue to move forwards with our expertise and our offering.
We will continue to give amazing customer service and give added value to everything we do with good British values. We want to give that ultimate spa experience and bring that into the world of brows
Women are triple tasking running the home and looking ater the family and having full time jobs. As tech continues to boom we are going to need a space to come and relax even it is just for a 20 minute brow treatment -It is about crossing the boundaries between beauty and wellness and bring that into the brow world

Believe in yourself and you can do it.

Be passionate about what you do.
Embrace continuous learning.
Focus on your customer.
Put yourself out there, network and connect.
Remember to look after yourself too!

Who are the 5 people who inspire you the most and why?
Oprah Winfrey her resilience and all the set backs she faced in her early days and she kept powering through and the amazing work she has done with young girls and women
J K Rowling- she was a struggling single mum and faced a string of rejections by lots of different publishers. She powered through to get her amazing work published
Marth Luther King is a massive inspiration.
My Dad- for his amazing hard working values and for being really kind and devoting his life to other people
My Mum- for being hard working and strong and her resilience. She is a massive support for our family
My Son- his amazing sense of adventure- throws himself into everything and grabs life with both hands and immerses himself into anything that comes his way
