Can you tell us a little about your background and your company?
Absolutely. I’m driven by a deep belief in Africa’s potential. As a seasoned strategist, business leader, and now author, I’m passionate about empowering African leaders and entrepreneurs to drive growth and innovation. My experience spans nearly 25 years across four continents, including successfully leading a multinational’s Nigerian subsidiary through a global pandemic.
At ZER Consulting Africa, we provide tailored strategic solutions to help African businesses achieve their full potential. Our SCALE framework guides businesses through strategy, leadership development, governance, and expansion, enabling them to make a global impact.
What inspired you to start your business?
After a year of reflection following international moves and successful leadership roles, I realized my expertise could be best utilized by supporting other African businesses. I wanted to be a “business mom,” providing guidance and support. I spent that year connecting with people across the continent, understanding their challenges, and realizing I could make a real difference.
How did you create awareness for your brand?
I’ve spent over two decades building a strong global network and personal brand. We’re now leveraging that to professionalize the ZER brand and promote our SCALE framework. We’ve also brought on a business development lead based in Kenya to expand our reach across the continent.
What strategies helped you secure funding and scale your business?
ZER is self-funded, allowing us to maintain our independence and focus on our mission.
What have been your biggest successes so far?
Building a team of eight highly motivated professionals spread across Africa and Europe, and establishing a client portfolio spanning three continents, is a huge achievement. We’ve moved from a solo venture to a thriving team.
What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
The shift from a structured corporate environment to being a solo entrepreneur was challenging. I had to wear many hats – website developer, business developer, relationship manager, and more. I overcame this by being resourceful, learning quickly, and building a strong network of support.
What are your plans for the future?
We’ve developed a three-year strategy to professionalize, digitalize, and grow ZER into a truly Pan-African organization that creates measurable shared value.
What advice would you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs?
Just go for it! But be prepared. Have at least two years of savings before taking the leap.
What are your top three tips for entrepreneurial success?
- Be ready to roll up your sleeves and tackle any challenge.
- Build relationships with like-minded clients, partners and team members.
- Ensure you have sufficient savings to self-fund your business until it becomes profitable.
Who are the five people who inspire you the most, and why?
My dad. He was my first believer and champion, and his strength and support, even through challenging times, continue to inspire me.
