Amy is the founder of Olive Jennings, a shop and creative studio, offering a collection of handmade and curated homeware with a focus on quality and sustainability, as well as a bespoke product and lifestyle photography service. The brand is named after her grandmother, as she was an inspiration and helped shape the woman she is today.
What would you love to share to encourage other women to start their own business?
Strive to be brave, not perfect. Achieving what you dream of takes perseverance and imperfection, so don’t be afraid of that. When I started I was so worried about everything being perfect, and everything being just right, that I kept putting it off, until I realised that if I didn’t just do it and see what happened I never would. It wasn’t perfect, but I learnt as I went along, and the brand has evolved and grown so much because of that.
What are your 5 top tips for entrepreneurial success?
Find someone you trust and admire to be a sounding board and mentor, especially if you don’t have a business partner.
Imposter syndrome can be a huge thing for business owners – have confidence; in what you do, your voice, your approach, in you being good enough
Get your pricing and margins right at the beginning
Motivation – there’s no annual review or bonus to work towards – you get out what you put in.
Don’t limit yourself – let your business evolve into what it becomes and don’t set hard parameters – take every opportunity.
Who are the 5 women who inspire you the most?
My grandmother who the brand is named after
My mum – she instilled in me a fierce work ethic like she has, but also always puts family Amy Harrison-Masonfirst.
Phoebe Waller Bridge
Kamala Harris
Shari Lapena
What is your favourite saying/inspirational quote?
I often find inspirational quotes quite corny but this resonates with me somewhat…
‘Work hard in silence and let your success be your noise.’
