Gayle Carpenter is the Founder and Creative Director of Sparkloop Creative Agency. Driven and focussed, Gayle founded Sparkloop in 2004 and successfully delivers bespoke creative strategies for brands and businesses.Gayle’s founding client, Red Bull, is still with her 15 years later along with The Prince’s Trust who she has also managed to retain whilst attracting other impressive clients such as Prudential, Checkatrade, Homeserve, Asics to name but a few. She has kept her vision, kept her team small and focussed, and has offices in London and Bath to maximise business opportunities while managing her close relationships with her clients.
What would you love to share to encourage other women to start their own business?
Be really ready to work for it. You need to push through and never give up. Keep focused, and only do it if you are 100% passionate about it. Adapt, be agile but don’t fundamentally change who you are as that’s your biggest strength.
What are your top 5 tips for entrepreneurial success?
Be heard but don’t shout – strike a balance between being heard and being too confident. You have an opinion and it matters but you can cut through the noise rather than shout above it. Listen to others but have your own opinion and embrace what you can bring to the table.
Surround yourself with likeminded, great people that you can nurture and grow with and who can support you.
Have empathy and encourage team members to feel safe and confident in their own abilities as your team is largely the key to your success.
Have a close strategy but don’t ignore your gut.
Stay agile in the way you think and in the way you react to things. The past year has shown us how we have to think on our feet and stay one step ahead.
Who are the 5 women who inspire you the most?
Malala Yousafzai – Pakistani activist – She found the most amazing voice and managed to change people’s perceptions against all odds.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg – While she was alive, she didn’t shout to be heard. Instead she had a silent power and was awe inspiring. It wasn’t until she passed away that it became evident how epic her role had been in the USA.
Michelle Obama – She has such a great partnership with her husband who let her have her voice and to shine. She was afforded a position through his position but she used that platform effectively and graciously to educate and inspire others.
My Mum – She has kept me grounded and humble and often reminds me that yes, you can be entrepreneurial but at the same time you need balance in your life.
What is your favourite saying/inspirational quote?
I’m going to buck the trend here as there isn’t a quote that really stands out for me. On different days of the week, certain inspirational quotes might inspire me in different ways but I don’t live by one specifically.
