IWD Inspirational Female Founders Spotlight: Margo Marrone

Margo Marrone is a pharmacist, homeopath, entrepreneur and co-founder of The Organic Pharmacy.  Growing up in pre-revolution Iran, Margo’s love of all things herbal began when she was very young, on shopping trips to the bazaar visiting the local apothecary. Having moved to London aged 11, Margo studied pharmacy at Kings College London which led to a specialisation in herbal medicine where her true calling lay. After becoming pregnant with her daughter, her idea for The Organic Pharmacy was born after struggling to find cleanly-formulated products. Using her pharmacist and homeopath background she began to work on her own formulations.

In 2002 the first The Organic Pharmacy store on London’s Kings Road opened. The shop was an instant hit and has won legions of loyal fans and a cult following with Kylie Minogue, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Robbie Williams, Katy Perry, Tom Hanks, Elle McPherson, Beyoncé, Daisy Lowe, Kiera Knightley among many others. The Organic Pharmacy has become a trusted name in health and beauty and is now in over 36 countries, stocked in luxury spas and department stores. The Organic Pharmacy is an innovative concept of a 21st century luxurious organic apothecary and urban day spa with homeopathic tinctures, blends, beauty treatments and own label effective, organic, green, fair trade and lovingly made skin care, body care, makeup products and supplements.

What would you  love to share to encourage other women to start their own company?

As women we give up our power so easily, international women’s day to me means, step into your power. We are natural born caretakers and sometimes we forget about our own dreams so I always encourage women to follow their passion whatever that might be and have full confidence in their own ability to write the story of their life they way they want it to be

What are your top 5 tips for entrepreneurial success?

Make sure you keep your vision at the fore front.

If one person says no find another and keep going until you get a yes.

Nothing is personal, so don’t take anything personally.

Always walk in the customers shoes-is your product good enough for them.

Walk the walk- don’t expect success without putting in the effort.

Who are the 3 women who inspire you the most ?

Kelly Moss

The woman I most admire is my dear friend Kelly Moss which just authored her second cook book- Cape Cod Cook Book- out off season  https://www.amazon.com/Cape-Cod-Cookbook-Off-Season/dp/1636251455 She was in a car crash 20 years ago that left her paralised and is the most positive and funniest person I know. Since then she has written 2 cook books and taken her masters in Harvard!! Incredible!

Roxy Marrone

My daughter – she is now 23 but every day she inspires me to be better and think differently – I learn so much from her.

Irene Schappi

The founder of the Goddess collective  https://www.thegoddesscollective.ch    – I met Irene 6 years ago and it was an instant connection. She is one of the kindest and most creative people I know. It takes a strong woman to be able to see and face her shadow side and I had the privilege of working on ours together. So grateful for the sisterhood.

What is your favourite saying/inspirational quote?

“Don’t take anything personally- nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others you won’t be the victim to needless suffering”
