What would you love to share to encourage other women to start their own business?
Starting your own business is scary and you will sometimes fail, it’s inevitable. But once you start to look at failure as the progress you will see your journey in an entirely new light. You have to fail to succeed. The most successful people have failed and learned along the way. If it’s something you are truly passionate about then you will want to learn these lessons along the way as it will get you to a point where you are making the world a better place by giving them what you are offering.
What are your top 5 tips for entrepreneurial success?
Set realistic goals. Anyone could add 20 things to their ‘to-do list’ for the day but if you don’t actually complete them, you’ll just end the day feeling unproductive. Prioritise and stay committed to the goals you do set.
Talk to other business owners and surround yourself with people who have a similar vision to you and encourage your success.
Remember that things take time. A great saying is ‘an overnight success takes 7 years’. When you do see a sudden success it is usually because years of hard work has gone into it that we haven’t been privy to.
Remember why you started. Things can sometimes get difficult or you might have hurdles that block your way that can be disheartening. So it always helps to pause and reflect on why you started doing what you’re doing. My own health journey inspired me to start Our Remedy and I am so passionate about giving women a natural alternative to their monthly symptoms that on days I feel a struggle I remember why I started and I find new strength.
Find your why power. I think it’s so important to have passion in business, because it’s likely you’ll be working on your business from the moment you wake up until the moment you go to bed (especially in the early days), if the passion isn’t there it can become unenjoyable and extremely difficult.
Who are the 5 women who inspire you the most?
Gabby Edlin – Founder of Bloody Good Period
Siobhan Freegard – Founder of Netmums
Sara Blakely – Founder of Spanks
Amika George – FreePeriods campaign
Kris Hallenga – Founder of CoppaFeel
What is your favourite saying/inspirational quote?
‘Great is the enemy of good’. I am such a perfectionist but I have learnt throughout the years that if you spend lots of time making something ‘perfect’ you will never actually do it. And this loops right back around to ‘you have to fail to succeed’. It won’t be perfect at first, and that’s fine because the only way to make it perfect is to keep failing and keep trying. You will get there!
