Inspirational Female Founder Spotlight: Dr Morgana McCabe Allan

Dr Morgana McCabe Allan works with frustrated entrepreneurs to help them fall back in love with their businesses, achieve their goals and attract the right kind of clients. She helps people understand the relationship between themselves, the work they do and the world around them so they can achieve their true potential, make an impact and live in integrity. She is the author of the bestselling book – Unbecoming: the unorthadox guide to radical wholeness.

Can you tell us a little about your background and the company?

Before starting my business, I completed an interdisciplinary Ph.D looking at how our sense of identity and reality is influenced by people, places, things, ideas and emotions. I constantly observe that for many people, success feels painful and awkward and requires so much of them to continue to progress. My company is the antithesis to that and helps people achieve success they can feel in their body and heart.

How did the idea come to you for the company?

I started writing my Ph.D as a book and when I signed up with a coach to help me complete it, she told me that everyone needs to know this stuff. She really inspired me to take my skills and instead of writing the book, I created a business instead. I realised that working directly with people would have a greater impact at a faster rate than finishing the book would.

How did you achieve awareness?

In 2011, I started a social media movement which had an audience spanning 39 countries and I became very familiar with using Facebook. It then felt like a natural step to start my business on Facebook and build a community there, although it was more uncomfortable to build a personal brand.

How have you been able to gain funding and grow?

I put in an initial sum of a few thousand pounds into the business and then focused on selling my services and reinvesting the money I made. As the business has grown, I have kept reinvesting to allow it to grow even bigger.

What are the key successes?

My key successes have been seeing the journeys that my clients have been on as a result of working with me. One of my clients was feeling suicidal but started a new business from scratch using her transferable skills. She has grown her audience to over 30,000, is fully booked for the best part of a year and is now making 5x her previous income. That’s not an unusual result for my business, my clients typically increase their income from 2x to 10x. That feels to me like a really big win.

My new book Unbecoming: the unorthadox guide to radical wholeness has also been a major success. Seeing it well-received, seeing positive feedback and people sharing it with their friends has been amazing. Another key success for me is being able to be financially stable and support not only my family but a team as well.

What were/are the challenges and how have you overcome these?

The biggest challenge I faced was when I hired a Facebook ads company. I had grown my business organically over a couple of years but on the very first day, this company started running my ads, my ads account was permanently disabled. I couldn’t run any ads from that account for that or any future business. I had to start over from scratch to a brand new audience. Our clients came with us to our new Facebook and Instagram accounts but most of the other followers were lost. I overcame this by seeing it as an opportunity rather than a terrible hardship. I doubled the business after that. I believe it isn’t about the number of followers you have but what you are actually doing in your business.

What are your plans now/for the future?

I’ve just launched my book and now I am planning to portion off a part of my year-long programme so people can do it on its own. It will be all about understanding your motivation and staying committed to yourself and being courageous in your storytelling to build your business in a way which is aligned to you and your needs.

What would you like to share with others to encourage them to start their own entrepreneurship journey?

Entrepreneurship is the best personal development journey you can imagine. If I was to get a job, I would have to do some things that I hated because it would be part of the job. When you are an entrepreneur, you can deliver your very best skills to the people you want to help. It isn’t just about the money, the level of satisfaction is amazing and I think everyone deserves to experience that sort of magic.

Can you share your top tips for entrepreneurial success?

Recognise that strategy is always going to amplify what you already have. If you don’t have clarity and you don’t know what you offer, strategy is just going to amplify your lack of clarity. The way to create an extraordinary business is to think differently and take off your own limitations. The ideas you have and the strategies you choose will be a better fit for you.

Who are the 5 people who inspire you the most and why?

All human beings inspire me and I recognise that they all have limitations. There is no one who is the perfect example. The things that inspire us about someone else are the things we have inside us that are wanting to be awakened. Once you activate it inside yourself, then it doesn’t seem as magical. I focus on being fully inspired by every person that I interact with, nature and the world around me.
