Can you tell us a little about your background and the company?
I am a multi-award-winning Independent Prescribing Pharmacist specialised in Medical Aesthetics. I set up Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic in 2016 to provide a safe and medical environment for a mostly unregulated industry. Only registered healthcare professionals carry out our range of treatments. Our Award-Winning clinic is also Save Face registered with an Excellence rating. We have clients who travel from all over the UK and overseas, including Dubai. Our client base is diverse, ranging from well-known faces from the world of modelling, sports and TV, city high flyers wanted to present to the boardroom in confidence, to those who simply want to turn back the clock and look naturally refreshed and rejuvenated.
For us, every client is welcomed and valued, and every client request and face is treated as unique.
How did the idea come to you for the company?
Social media, the digital age, and people living longer have all led to people taking a greater interest in appearance. The lack of regulation in this sector and seeing so many people left with botched procedures led me in my quest to create a clinic that upheld my values and unwavering standards. I am an utter perfectionist in every respect, and Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic reflects those values. As a medical professional offering a safe, clinical environment conveniently situated in easy reach from London, Essex, Surrey and Kent, I knew that we could deliver the gold standard in aesthetic treatments within a safe and welcoming environment.
How did you achieve awareness?
We have spent considerable time building our brand. From client reviews, referrals, social media to featuring in the national and luxury press, we have worked hard to develop and retain a flawless reputation and build brand awareness.
How have you been able to gain funding and grow?
I started the clinic with a small personal investment of £20,000. Within nine months, we were breaking even on a monthly basis. All profits have continually been re-invested into the business, whether in marketing or continual training, to ensure we always remain at the forefront of industry innovation and non-surgical cosmetic trends.
What are your key tips for success?
Be yourself
Invest in yourself
Respect everyone
Remember that word of mouth is the most powerful marketing tool.
What were/are the challenges, and how have you overcome these?
The biggest challenge has been proving myself and standing out from the crowd in what is generally a saturated market. Coming from a pharmaceutical background into the aesthetics industry, when I did, was relatively novel and pioneering. However, this background was to become my advantage with numerous transferrable medical skills; consultation, assessment, consent, medical history evaluation, and anatomical examinations.
I overcome these challenges by following my keys to success as above. I took a professional and ethical approach to my work from the outset. I have always believed that chasing the money is the wrong way to operate a business. Focus on the client, work hard, and everything else will naturally fall into place.
What are your plans now/for the future?
My current plan is to continue to develop myself as a trainer in facial aesthetics. In the future, I hope to continue to grow the brand with multiple clinic locations or possibly as a franchise model.
What would you like to share with others to encourage them to start their own entrepreneurship journey?
Work hard and don’t give up. You need to be prepared to invest in your time and have the mindset that you will not be an overnight success. Building a successful brand and a business that will withstand the test of time takes time. It also requires resilience and the ability to continually adapt to keep up with the latest trends, whether it be industry-related or a new social media algorithm.
Can you share your top 5-10 tips for entrepreneurial success?
Have a goal, and make your plan; but remember, you may need to adapt your strategy along the way
Stay focused. Maintain that determination. Find that something that keeps you motivated that won’t let you stop until you reach your goal.
Seek out mentors, learn from those around you. Learning what to do is as important as what not to do.
Mistakes are inevitable. Use them as a learning opportunity and keep going
Stay humble. One day, it will be your turn to be a mentor and give back
Don’t be scared to say no or walk away. When walking into a room, always know your exit plan.
Use every opportunity to learn
Make money before spending money.
