Christie Stapleton founded Glam Wax in May 2019. Based in Devon the company has just gone from the kitchen table to family beach shop to new dedicated 3000sq ft premises.  New ranges are being developed and aUK household name is potentially taking on the products.    Christie says “I love all things that smell good! Glam Wax was started in my kitchen in Exeter and has now grown into our beautiful pink warehouse! I have been operating for 2 years and have grown the company by 400% to date. Glam Wax is all about girly goodness, big dreams and strong fragrance!”

What would you love to share to encourage other women to start their own business?

If you have a dream or a goal, you can achieve it! It may not be instant success and sometimes it can look overwhelming, but you just need to take the first step and after that take another and suddenly you will be on track to hit your goals!

It’s an amazing feeling being able to have your own autonomy and freedom. Being able to make my decisions in an industry I’m passionate about is my dream and I encourage any girl/woman to start there, even if it is just a small step of writing down a few company names.

What are your top 5 tips for success?

Know yourself and love yourself

Knowing yourself is the key to starting your own business. Once you know yourself you can learn your strengths and weaknesses, this is crucial for learning how you can best run a business. For other people to love you, you have to love yourself and be confident with who you are. So learn everything about yourself, what makes you tick and what drives you.

Seek knowledge

Indulge yourself into the industry and learn everything! Become an expert to avoid imposter syndrome. Results will come if you are constantly learning.

Keep margins low

Get your prices low! I used to be a buyer so this one was an easy one for me. Look around, negotiate and look to buy in bulk if you can. If you can drive your margins down this will help the bottom line massively. These same principles work for services, if you can reduce time in performing the service, you can increase output and profitability.

Surround yourself with the right people

I am part of multiple support networks and it’s absolutely invaluable! Some of these were already there and some I had to set up, but honestly having a female support group with everyone going through the same battles makes it so much easier. I love the family we have all built!

Freelancers

Look to use freelancers if there is something you can’t do. There are a mass of great freelance websites like Fiver, Upwork and People per hour. These can be really cost effective solutions for you.

Who are the 5 women who inspire you the most?

Whitney Wolfe

Deborah Meaden

Alice Hall

Mitzi Stapleton (Mother)

Madam C.J. Walker

What is your favourite saying/inspirational quote?

Mary K Beauty

‘’aerodynamically the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly but the bumble bee doesn’t know it, so it goes on flying anyway’’
