Beth Greer is the founder and owner of Ivy&Bee Interiors, an online homeware business based in Cheshire. They provide modern homeware & accessories with an eco-friendly approach for the purpose of both beauty and function. Their products are sourced from local & British suppliers in order to help shine a light on the amazing quality right here in the UK and to help champion other small businesses too.
She started Ivy&Bee in April 2020, (yes right at the start of a global pandemic!) however amongst all of this she encourages other women who are considering starting their own company to just go for it! Within their first year they were fortunate enough to feature in local and national publications, built up an amazing following and won their first award for ‘Best Newcomer’ in Retail, in Cheshire.
What would you love to say to encourage other women to start their own business?
It’s been both scary and liberating in equal measure and anything you don’t know you’ll be sure to learn along the way, along with a whole host of support from other business owners and groups. Remember to keep you goals in view and the reasons why you started.
What are your top 5 tips for entrepreneurial success?
Research your marketplace
Research your products
Research your competitors
…and most importantly your ideal customer as this will help in developing your brand and to build in an ethos too.
Ivy&Bee has an eco-friendly ethos and we partner with Ecologi and The Eden Reforestation Project so a tree is planted for every order. I believe this is not only important for our environment but also helps to build trust with our customers that we are responsible in our business approach.
Who are the five women who inspire you the most?
My Mum who has always had such a strong work ethic and encouraged this in her daughters too.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg through her ground-breaking support for women’s rights, LGBT and racial equality.
Michelle Obama for being an inspiration to women and girls around the world and being an accomplished woman in her own right.
Stevie Nicks for being the ultimate idol in a time when rock music was predominantly a male-oriented space.
And finally, all the women who are taking a leap and following their dreams.
What is your favourite inspirational quote?
A friend of mine used the quote:
‘Your flame doesn’t get any brighter by blowing someone else’s out’
It has fast become my favourite quote to live and work by. It reminds us to encourage each other and to support healthy competition, not to fear it.
