Carolyn Pearson founded her company Maiden Voyage as she wanted to connect the world of inspiring female business travellers so that they could explore new cities safely together. Twelve years later, Maiden Voyage is recognised as a world leader in traveller safety for diverse business travellers. Carolyn and her team spend their time delivering specialised workshops and eLearning for Female, LGBTQ, BAME and disabled travellers and their employers. She sits on the Global Business Travel Association Risk Committee and is a committed trustee for domestic abuse charity Refuge.
What would you love to share to encourage other women to start their own business?
“I’d encourage women to create their own universe of work so that they can fill it with all that inspires them, work with whom they want, create the culture that sits with their values and work when and where they want. It’s not easy, but that’s the point, you will always be intellectually challenged, every day will be a school day but you’ll be living your dream.
Tip, pick something you love and are passionate about because it will become all consuming.”

- Learn to sell
- Be patient, it always takes longer than what you expect – no overnight success here!
- Be gracious and humble and ask for help from those who inspire you
- Don’t be scared of investment
- Don’t fill your time with ‘doing things’, thinking is the new doing!
