Maria Frykman is founder and CEO of premium yet truly sustainable outdoor childrenswear company Isbjörn of Sweden. In 2005, frustrated by the lack of durable outdoor clothing for children, new mum Maria changed the direction of her career from being a management consultant into becoming an entrepreneur. Together with her friend Camilla, she was determined to make the most durable yet sustainable “no compromise” outdoor clothing for kids of all ages.
What would you love to share with other women wanting to start their own business?
Believe in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. Don’t expect the journey to be easy. If you passionately believe in your idea and have the determination to succeed – you will! Our very first order of 800 fleece overalls was sewn with our very own hands and we worked all night to ensure our first customer received their order on time. Our products are now available all over the world, in more than 15 countries.

Believe in what you want to achieve and stick to your path
Try to start organically and build from there
Avoid any unnecessary start-up costs
Stay focused and don’t make too many compromises
Learn from those early mistakes – they will become invaluable in future years
