Dominique is the founder of The Woolf’s Kitchen and Woolf Bites – a range of spicy sauces and nuts inspired by her Thai roots. A Leiths trained mum of three, she started the business in lockdown in June 2020 with her children then aged 3, 4 and 5 at home and no childcare. They came with her on deliveries and even to meetings. Her products are now stocked in independents across the country. Dominique started her career in sales and was also a singer/songwriter, even playing Glastonbury once.
What would you love to share to encourage other women to start their own business?
Be bold and believe in what you do. Starting your own business can be tough, so you have to be passionate and dedicated beyond belief. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and get support. There are so many benefits of having your own business and if you do something you love, it can give you a new found sense of purpose.
What are your 5 top tips for entrepreneurial success?
Refine your offering –make sure your product or service is outstanding.Research and ongoing learning– know everything about your market, your competitors, your customers. Speak to your peers. Become an expert in your field. There is a wealth of information available – Enterprise Nation is a great resourceNetworking – crucial for any business. LinkedIn and Facebook are a good starting point. Entrepreneurial spirit – having your own business is about selling yourself or your product, and knocking on doors. You need to have a thick skin, perseverance and single-mindedness. Start before you are ready and iterate as you go.
